Snowballin’ With Scallywags ’13

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

Snowball is officially upon us ladies and gentleman. We’re thrilled to be officially on board this year to provide coverage for this unique concert experience. This marks the 3rd year of the festival and the first year in a new location, the beautiful Winter Park Colorado.  Below you will find an itemized rundown of the artists we’re most excited about seeing.

If you haven’t heard yet, they’ve changed the no re-entry policy. Re-entry will now be aloud up until 7pm making the prospect of catching some of the earlier acts a lot more feasible.

Rumtum 2:30-3:15 Ballroom

This Denver based beat maker is certainly worth checking out.

RAC 4:30-5:30 Groove Tent

Catching RAC at the Groove Tent from 4:30-5:30 will be a great way to keep your blood flowing as the temps drop.

Zion I 5:45 – 6:45 Groove Tent

This duo’s been in the game for well over 10 years now and they’re still making waves with their infectious brand of west coast hip-hop.

Orchard Lounge 6:30 – 8:30 Ballroom

Their mission? “To expose as many people as possible to the artists whom they admire and respect, create unique dance floor memories, and to cross traditional boundaries of turntablism/improv/electronic fusion.”  SOLD.

The Presets 7:00 – 8:00 Groove Tent

Australian Electro rock duo The Presets are practically super stars down under and they’ve made huge waves stateside as well. Their live sets are simply amazing so it might be a good idea to make your way over early to get a good spot.

Kendrick Lamar  8:00 – 9:00 Main Stage

American Royalty 8:45 – 9:45 Ball Room

This LA based 3 piece is gaining some serious momentum right now with their unconventional blend of psychedelic rock & electronica.

We recommend starting your day off with Snowbrunch of course. You can check out the post we did about here.

School Knights 2:15 – 3:00 Ball Room

Another Denver act that is certainly worth checking out.

Steffi Graf  3:30 – 4:30 Ball Room

In case you missed them at Snowbrunch.

Gigamesh 5:30 – 6:30 Groove Tent

After making his first Colorado appearance this past summer, Gigamesh returns to Colorado for the 4th time in less than a year. He’s been an in demand remixer for quite some time and know he’s making serious waves with a string of well received original productions.  Check out the write up we did on him last year here and we highly recommend catching at least a little bit of his set.

Shlomo 5:45 – 6:45 Ball Room

Chopped and pitched down vocals, driving rhythms, subtle samples and air brushed synths embody this young LA based producers unique bass heavy sound. Very excited to see what he brings to the table live.

Polica 6:15-7:15 Main Stage

I wish I knew more, but I only recently discovered the Minnesota based phenomenon known as Polica. I liken their sound to Portis Head with pop flair.

TEED (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs) 7:00- 8:00 Groove Tent

Prepare to have your mind blown. This chap is a one man power house who seamlessly  blends house, garage, electro and pop to create his trademark highly buzzed about sound. He’s hands down the act I’m most excited about seeing.

Japandroids 8:45-9:45 Ball Room

Most know that we keep our coverage focused on music of the electronic variety, but every now then I like to turn my ears toward some good old fashioned rock & roll.

Aeroplane Groove Tent 4:00-5:00

A healthy blend of electro, disco and house from this dutch producer/DJ is how I plan on starting my day today.

Destructo Groove Tent 5:00 – 6:00

Next up is HARD founder Destructo. Expect the unexpected.

Flying Lotus 7:45 – 8:45 Groove Tent

This beatsmith really needs no introduction as he’s fast approaching legendary status with his steady strokes of musical genius. His live performances are said to be second to none as well.

And there you have it!!! Have fun and be safe. We’ll catch you on the flip side.

Treats For Your Tricks Mega Post

Saturday, October 27th, 2012

Got a few mixtapes, a bunch of tracks and then run down of some notable events taking place this evening.

Aaaand GOOO!!!

Karmon is a deep house producer/DJ from the Netherlands. The last year has been especially successful for him as his releases have garnered massive support accross the globe. I personally love his work and I’m really loving this set he put down for a radio station in Amsterdam.

UK badass Dusky is pretty much a household name these days and he further cemented that fact by laying down a most excellent mix for BBC Radio 1. Essential indeed.

My favorite Swedish Nu Disco/House outfit Monitor 66 recently dropped this amazingly sexy and soulful mix for British Label House Of Disco Records. Def a must listen.

Finally, I’d like to do more shameless self promotion by sharing my OctoBearTape with you all.

Aeroplane featured this lovely little remix from British house producer Ben Gomori on his recent mixtape. Good stuff.

Holy Ghost! is easily one of my favorite DFA outfits and one of my favorite bands in general and this is their latest (and might I say festive) masterpiece. Not a free DL so I recommend heading over to Itunes and snagging a copy.

Yep..yet another batch of brilliant freebies from Mr Malinchak. I’m firmly convinced that he can do no wrong.

A fantastic edit from sir Gigamesh.

I wasn’t really a huge fan of the original version of RAC’s first original Hollywood, but the remixes thus far have been brilliant. Cassian‘s is easily my favorite, but Treasure Finger‘s completely flipped it and I’m certainly digging his take as well.

Edwin Van Cleef blessed us with this gem a few days back…simple yet catchy and quite addicting.

This one might be a miss for some, but Paul Simon’s Graceland was a staple of my childhood and an absolutley fantastic album. This is a very simple yet effective edit of one of my favorite tracks off that album from Dutch producer The Starkiller.

Bufi‘s been rocking my world as of late. He’s one of many producers catching rec out of Mexico right now.

British producer T. Williams has taken the latest from Disclosure molded it into a four on the floor banger. I personally think it knocks the original clear out of the water. No word on a release yet.

Duke Dumont has been smashing it as of late hence the reason he’s one of my favorite producers right now. Coming on the heals of his most notable release to date “For Club Play Only” is this exclusive he released for free via Annie Mac.

Please don’t forget that the 11th installment of TheHundred is popping off this evening at Beauty Bar. The headliner tonight is none other than garage/house legend Todd Edwards featuring support from locals option4, Vanish, Werq and Fun Factory. Doors are at 9 and cover won’t kick in til 9:30 so if you thurr early, it’s free. If you don’t have no fear because cover is only $6 bucks which is a STEAL when compared to the talent in the building. If you’d like a taste of what to expect, then check out this freebie he released about a month ago and this video of his fabled Boiler Room set.

TheHundred Presents: Gigamesh w/Babyshoe, Captain Safety, boyhollow & option4 this Saturday 5/26 @Beauty Bar

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Already? Time flies. This represents the 7th installment of our highly successful dance party featuring the one and only Gigamesh (Denver Debut) with STRONG local support from Babyshoe, Captain Safety, boyhollow and of course option4.

Gigamesh aka Matt Masurka hails from Minneapolis and has quickly become a household name mostly because of his stellar remix work. His recent stylings lean more in the 80s disco boogie realm, but his earlier work (mostly with collective DiscoTech) leaned more on the electro side of the spectrum. Matt’s a huge fan of minimalist concert music, jazz, disco, film music, classic rock, and genre-bending electronic music. This obviously makes him well rounded musically and also speaks volumes about what you hear in his tracks from both a technical and stylistic standpoint. One of his most notable remixes was for a track by Mike Posner. The remix was initially released on a mixtape, but was ultimately chosen as the lead single off of Posner’s debut album. The single went on to sell over 2 Million copies consequently launching Posner’s career as a pop star. Since then he’s been commissioned to do official remixes for Foster The People, Katy B and Grouplove among others.

He released his first official EP in October of this past year to vast acclaim in the indie dance world. His latest EP All My Life was recently released on indie dance giant Kitsune exclusively on Beatport this past week. It will be available everywhere else next week.

In attempts to make this experience more personal, I contacted Matt for an interview. He politely and respectfully declined stating that it was nothing personal, he just isn’t very good at describing what he does. Good answer as even though I’m not a producer myself, if I were, I would want my music to do the talking. Below you will find a preview of his new EP along with a huge chunk of his brilliant remixes, more than half of which are available for your downloading pleasure via Soundcloud. Enjoy and I look forward to seeing you all on the dance floor. Make sure you get there early and support our locals as well. I for one, can’t wait.
