Below you will find the soundtrack to the first part your week:
Well The Magician unveiled his latest Magic Tape today so we thought it would be a good idea to jump on the bandwagon with the rest of the blogs and share it with you. As always, it features new and currently unreleased tunes and it maintains the level of magical consistency that we’ve grown to expect from everyone’s favorite mix series.
Lee Foss‘s essential mix? Yes pleeeease. If for some crazy reason you’re not familiar with the man (some might say legend) then this 2 hour MASTERPIECE will certainly change that. If you only listen to 1 mixtape in this post it should be this one. Oh…and he’s playing this Friday at Satori here in Denver so if you’re planning on going to that simply because every one else is and because they’re giving away guest list spots like condoms at planned parenthood..then you best educate yourself!!!
As a bonus..I encourage you to check out my November mixtape. It’s chock full of some fresh new tunes that I’m sure you will enjoy.
Got a few mixtapes, a bunch of tracks and then run down of some notable events taking place this evening.
Karmon is a deep house producer/DJ from the Netherlands. The last year has been especially successful for him as his releases have garnered massive support accross the globe. I personally love his work and I’m really loving this set he put down for a radio station in Amsterdam.
UK badass Dusky is pretty much a household name these days and he further cemented that fact by laying down a most excellent mix for BBC Radio 1. Essential indeed.
My favorite Swedish Nu Disco/House outfit Monitor 66 recently dropped this amazingly sexy and soulful mix for British Label House Of Disco Records. Def a must listen.
Finally, I’d like to do more shameless self promotion by sharing my OctoBearTape with you all.
Aeroplane featured this lovely little remix from British house producer Ben Gomori on his recent mixtape. Good stuff.
Holy Ghost! is easily one of my favorite DFA outfits and one of my favorite bands in general and this is their latest (and might I say festive) masterpiece. Not a free DL so I recommend heading over to Itunes and snagging a copy.
Yep..yet another batch of brilliant freebies from Mr Malinchak. I’m firmly convinced that he can do no wrong.
A fantastic edit from sir Gigamesh.
I wasn’t really a huge fan of the original version of RAC’s first original Hollywood, but the remixes thus far have been brilliant. Cassian‘s is easily my favorite, but Treasure Finger‘s completely flipped it and I’m certainly digging his take as well.
Edwin Van Cleef blessed us with this gem a few days back…simple yet catchy and quite addicting.
This one might be a miss for some, but Paul Simon’s Graceland was a staple of my childhood and an absolutley fantastic album. This is a very simple yet effective edit of one of my favorite tracks off that album from Dutch producer The Starkiller.
Bufi‘s been rocking my world as of late. He’s one of many producers catching rec out of Mexico right now.
British producer T. Williams has taken the latest from Disclosure molded it into a four on the floor banger. I personally think it knocks the original clear out of the water. No word on a release yet.
Duke Dumont has been smashing it as of late hence the reason he’s one of my favorite producers right now. Coming on the heals of his most notable release to date “For Club Play Only” is this exclusive he released for free via Annie Mac.
Please don’t forget that the 11th installment of TheHundred is popping off this evening at Beauty Bar. The headliner tonight is none other than garage/house legend Todd Edwards featuring support from locals option4, Vanish, Werq and Fun Factory. Doors are at 9 and cover won’t kick in til 9:30 so if you thurr early, it’s free. If you don’t have no fear because cover is only $6 bucks which is a STEAL when compared to the talent in the building. If you’d like a taste of what to expect, then check out this freebie he released about a month ago and this video of his fabled Boiler Room set.
This is the first installment of a monthly post I’ll be doing about mixtapes specifically. I would like to include at least one mix from a local DJ each month. That said, if you’d like your mix featured please pop it in our drop box and we’ll go from there. As I’m sure most of you have noticed, my tastes lean primarily in the indie house/disco realm, but that’s just me. Genre doesn’t matter.
Lets kick off our first installment with an exclusive mix that Perseus laid down for I-D Magazine. It includes a few tracks from his French Express brethren as well as (what sounds like) a few exclusives. At approx 30 minutes in length, it’s short and extremely sweet.
Next up we have yet another exclusive mix from I-D Magazine and this one is from Nhan Solo. He’s a producer from Berlin and he has a strong affinity for Hip-Hop and funk as you’ll notice both in his mixes and productions. He’s one of my favorite producers at the moment and this mix includes a few original tracks from his latest release on Nurvous as well as some exclusives.
Amine Edge hails from France and from what I can tell you could pretty much take your pick from his Soundcloud page because this dude makes an art out “killing it.” Of course his productions are also top notch and I really hope to see him make a stop here when he comes stateside. Here’s a live recording of a set he recently played in Belgium. Naaaasty…..
Finally…I’m going to do some shameless self promotion and share my latest Mixtape. It’s chock full of some of my favorite tracks from the past few months. If you like what you hear, follow me on Soundcloud here.
