The Hundred 1 Year Anniversary Featuring Jerome LOL (LOL Boys) This Sat the 24th @Beauty Bar

Saturday, November 24th, 2012

Just over a year ago I received a message from a (at that time) new friend of mine saying “You need to do me a favor. we need to talk. I was going to call you anyways. But i have something going on i think you’d enjoy. Call me later tonight. I’ll be free.” So of course I called him and he proceeded to tell me about this idea for a non-profit monthly dance party that revolved around a group of like minded individuals who love music. He said that there will be a select group of 100 people hand picked by him that would get to have input on whose booked and that would get to come to each of these parties free of charge. He said that the goal was to provide all of it’s members and anyone in attendance with a one of a kind opportunity to experience said artists/djs in an intimate house party style setting free of the commercialized bullshit that makes the average club going experience a nightmare. He said that any money made would go right back into the next party. I immediately told him that I thought he was a genius and that I think it’s going to be the start of something BEEEAUTIFUL. He said “I hope so…we’ll see. He then asked..”So are you in? You’re like the 3rd person I’ve told.”

Here we are a year later and this party has exceeded my expectations. Not only has it provided all of it’s members (past/present) with an opportunity to engage in and contribute to a movement that has made a huge impact on the Denver music scene, but also a chance to develop new friendships with amazing people. And how about the vibe? There’s nothing like it! Simply put It’s the highlight of every month for me and I’m quite sure the same goes for my fellow “Hundredteers.” I look forward to celebrating the one year mark with everyone and (on behalf of Starstuffscallywags) I’d like to thank the man who made it all possible, Brennan Bryarly aka option4. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your amazing vision homie. I think I speak for everyone when saying that it’s been a helluva ride thus far. Cheers to another year!!

Seeing that this is such a momentus occasion, all stops have been pulled and your headliner for the evening is one Jerome LOL. He gained notoriety as one half of the recently de-funked LA/Montreal duo LOL Boys. Jerome was the LA side of duo and he’s certainly staying busy on his own by quickly building a strong base of quality original productions and remixes via his Soundcloud page which you can check out here. He also runs Body High Records with fellow bass aficionado Samo Soundboy. An artist in the truest form of the word, his creativity doesn’t lie within music alone as he’s also a very skilled “internet artist.” (as showcased here). So much so that Rihanna allegedly stole one of his concepts for a recent SNL performance of her latest single ‘Diamonds.” A track which, ironically enough, Jerome very recently remixed. For more on that take a look at this interview he did with Fader Magazine here .

From a stylistic standpoint his production work, both solo and with LOL Boys, is nothing if not completely original. The best way I can describe it is forward thinking bass music with touches of house, hip-hop and R&B. I think we can expect to hear a few selections and edits from the short, but sweet LOL Boys catalog and some of his new solo material strewn about what promises to be a brilliant and eclectic set. Jerome is hands down the most forward thinking artist we’ve welcomed for the party and seeing that we’re moving “forward” into another year, that seems very appropriate.

Of course the local support will be exteremly strong with the godfather option4, Lust, Narky Stares and a little help from San Francisco based DJ Enso.

Set Times:

option4 – (Deep house set) 9PM

Lust – (Holy Underground) 945PM

Narky Stares – (Damn Gurl) 1030PM

ENSO – (San Francisco) 1115PM

option4 – (TheHundred, Lipgloss) 12AM

JEROME LOL – (BODY HIGH, LA) 1230AM

Cover is only $7…as always a steal for the talent in the building. I also encourage you to save some gusto for the official afterparty at Rhinoceropolis which you can RSVP for HERE. Cover is only $5 and it will feature sets from locals Loo Gutz aka Werq, option4, Hollagramz and a surprise guest from Jerome’s Label Body High. Bang! There’s your night Denver. See you on the dance floor.

Treats For Your Tricks Mega Post

Saturday, October 27th, 2012

Got a few mixtapes, a bunch of tracks and then run down of some notable events taking place this evening.

Aaaand GOOO!!!

MIXTAPES:

Karmon is a deep house producer/DJ from the Netherlands. The last year has been especially successful for him as his releases have garnered massive support accross the globe. I personally love his work and I’m really loving this set he put down for a radio station in Amsterdam.

UK badass Dusky is pretty much a household name these days and he further cemented that fact by laying down a most excellent mix for BBC Radio 1. Essential indeed.

My favorite Swedish Nu Disco/House outfit Monitor 66 recently dropped this amazingly sexy and soulful mix for British Label House Of Disco Records. Def a must listen.

Finally, I’d like to do more shameless self promotion by sharing my OctoBearTape with you all.

BEATS:

Aeroplane featured this lovely little remix from British house producer Ben Gomori on his recent mixtape. Good stuff.

Holy Ghost! is easily one of my favorite DFA outfits and one of my favorite bands in general and this is their latest (and might I say festive) masterpiece. Not a free DL so I recommend heading over to Itunes and snagging a copy.

Yep..yet another batch of brilliant freebies from Mr Malinchak. I’m firmly convinced that he can do no wrong.

A fantastic edit from sir Gigamesh.

I wasn’t really a huge fan of the original version of RAC’s first original Hollywood, but the remixes thus far have been brilliant. Cassian‘s is easily my favorite, but Treasure Finger‘s completely flipped it and I’m certainly digging his take as well.

Edwin Van Cleef blessed us with this gem a few days back…simple yet catchy and quite addicting.

This one might be a miss for some, but Paul Simon’s Graceland was a staple of my childhood and an absolutley fantastic album. This is a very simple yet effective edit of one of my favorite tracks off that album from Dutch producer The Starkiller.

Bufi‘s been rocking my world as of late. He’s one of many producers catching rec out of Mexico right now.

British producer T. Williams has taken the latest from Disclosure molded it into a four on the floor banger. I personally think it knocks the original clear out of the water. No word on a release yet.

Duke Dumont has been smashing it as of late hence the reason he’s one of my favorite producers right now. Coming on the heals of his most notable release to date “For Club Play Only” is this exclusive he released for free via Annie Mac.

EVENTS:

Please don’t forget that the 11th installment of TheHundred is popping off this evening at Beauty Bar. The headliner tonight is none other than garage/house legend Todd Edwards featuring support from locals option4, Vanish, Werq and Fun Factory. Doors are at 9 and cover won’t kick in til 9:30 so if you thurr early, it’s free. If you don’t have no fear because cover is only $6 bucks which is a STEAL when compared to the talent in the building. If you’d like a taste of what to expect, then check out this freebie he released about a month ago and this video of his fabled Boiler Room set.

TheHundred Presents Anna Lunoe this Saturday the 25th @Beauty Bar

Friday, August 24th, 2012

Aaaand the 10th installment of TheHundred is upon us. This month we welcome the beautiful and talented Anna Lunoe with additional rubs from locals option4, Babyshoe, Dylan Le Disko and Roger Samson. Hailing from Australia, the last few years have seen Anna making a name for herself across the globe headlining major festivals, providing music direction for international fashion shows and supporting everyone from Calvin Harris to A-trak to Diplo. She’s also become a weekend mainstay at clubs both down under and stateside. Her genre bending DJ sets are what really got her noticed, but she’s also becoming an in demand producer and vocalist. Her most recent disco leaning release entitled “Anna Lunoe And Friends” features her collaborating with fellow Aussies Touch Sensitive and Flume among others. It has spawned 2 of her most notable tracks to date and it continues to dominate the Beatport Indie Dance charts as we speak. I’m barely scratching the surface of her laundry list of accomplishments as she is truly one of the most accomplished artists we’ve had take the decks for TheHundred thus far. So I hope you’re ready, because she’s gonna knock it out of the park Saturday night.

Can’t wait to hear her drop this. Hands down one of my favorite tunes from this past summer.

Ummmm so ya…….she doesn’t know it yet, but she wrote this song about me.

Oh and here’s a rock solid mix she recently did for Beatport to get loose to.

In other news the godfather himself option4 released his first official EP To The Night last week. Thus far it’s been slaying the Beatport charts which means it’s getting the love it deserves. We seriously couldn’t be happier for him!! Keep your ears open Saturday night because I’m sure he’ll be setting the dance floor a blaze with at least a few of the tracks from the EP when he takes the decks.

Check out the amazing interview our homies over at Concerted Effort did with him in regards to the release below and the post we did about it here. And if you haven’t already, please show him some love by buying a copy here.

Finally….I’d like to remind everyone that we’re proud to be on board to present Fred Falke at The Summit Music Hall Saturday Sep 8th. We’re gonna make this our 2 year anniversary and we’d really appreciate your support.
