Fridee Funk (The Magician, Theophilus London + More)

Friday, April 27th, 2012

I write this post as I sit on my patio watching the beautiful light show this storm is putting on. Ironically enough, I liken the earlier part of my week to this very storm, minus the beautiful light show of course. Hence the choice of picture. Simply put, I got blatantly played for a fool by someone I thought I could trust. I’d like to quote Theophilus London by saying “They say some things are better not said, but how could you wear horns on your head?” Especially when you knew what was at stake. My shear anger over this mess has me wanting to go into much much more detail, but I’m a grown ass man so I might as well act like it and leave it at that.

I pride myself in always finding something positive in times like these and that positive is that it’s Fridee….so let’s get into the Funk. I’ll start off by sharing a track from British producers Vanguard. I know it’s a little older, but as cheesy as it might sound, I’m finding a lot of relevance in it right now in light of recent events…..

Vanguard – Loving Someone Else (Original Mix)

White Pants Dancing Treats:

J Paul Getto – You Make Me Happy (Original Mix)

^ 🙂

Monkey Safari – Fat Papa (Country Club Remix)

Thomas Banghalter – Colossus (The Phantom’s Revenge’s Bootleg Or Whatever You Call Those Kinds Of Things)

Worthy – Miami BBQ (Original Mix)

^This kind gentleman decided to give away a free EP in celebration of his B-Day. This version was my fav.

Punks Jump Up feat Chromeo’s Dave1 – Mr. Overtime (Gigamesh Remix)

If you haven’t caught on to The Magician’s Magic Tape series yet, I recommend changing that immediatly. Each one lives up to it’s name by inspiring pure Sex Magic and this is the latest installment of which he dropped earlier this week. I find it slightly frustrating that he never provides a track list, but I think that’s part of what makes each one so very magical.

The Magician – Magic Tape Twenty-Two

Theophilus London dropped Timez Are Weird These Days The Remixes, also earlier this week. It features some solid contributions from Brodinski and The Bloody Beetroots among others:

Theophilus London – Last Name London (Brodinski Remix)

Theophilus London – Why Even Try (feat. Sara Quin) [Bloody Beetroots Remix)
^A much more tame and funky styling from the Beetroots which works wonderfully. This also hits home right now for me.

Theophilus London – Stop It (Crookers Remix)

Rebeka – Stars (Original Mix)

Javeon McCarthy – Lost Time (T. Williams Remix)

Destructo feat. OLIVER – LA Funky (BS1 Remix)

I’ll conclude by reminding everyone once again that the 6 month Anniversary Edition of TheHundred is going down this Saturday at Beauty Bar. Bit Funk is making his first appearance in Denver and Roger That, myself, Jinro and option4 are gonna set it off as proper as as proper can be. Thanks for listening friends. Cheers.

California Dreamin’ w/ the Scallwags – Coachella 2012

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

This weekend some of the Scallywag crew and I will embark on an epic adventure..we will journey to the California desert for the second weekend of the Coachella Music and Arts festival in Indio, California..some would call this the ‘holy grail’ of music festivals..a definite kick or jump start to the summer concert season..if Snowball was a precursor of things to come this may blow things out of the water..I am so psyched and excited I cannot even find the words!

What adventures lie ahead? If some of the reviews and pictures of Weekend 1 say anything, Weekend 2 is only going to be bigger and better! I’ll be taking lots of pictures and video so hit us up on Instagram or Facebook for updates!

With that being said..every adventure needs a theme song right? Now I know theme songs are born, not made (or is it the other way round?), but I hope it’s this song! Heard it during the Ultra feed which had me itching for Coachella, it definitely sets the vibe:

Circles (Eric Prydz Remix)

What else will we be listening too? How about a playlist from our very own Nicholas at We Are Hunted – this playlist has ranked in the top 10 for the last week so check it out!

Collin’s SpringSprungMixtape

And now for the fun stuff..where can you find us and when? If you’re not attending make sure to look for us on the Live Stream! Of course all is subject to change depending on the mood and how we feel, but at a high level:

Friday:  We’ll be eager to get to the show..but look to kick it off with a little Neon Indian early afternoon..after that step it up with some Feed Me and Madeon in the Sahara tent..then maybe some Pulp, Frank Ocean, and definitely The Rapture and M83..close out the night with some Swedish House Mafia!

Saturday: It’ll be a Sahara tent afternoon..Zeds dead, Martin Solveig,  Ingrosso, then I’m sure we’ll be wanting to switch it up – hit up the Shins, Bon Iver, Miike Snow, then RADIOHEAD!!! I’ve been fantasizing about Radiohead closing out Saturday night in the California Desert with 75,000 other people..I just keep thinking about what an amazing show it was here last month at the 1st Bank Center!!

Sunday is Jam packed: Metronomy, Santigold, Fitz and the Tantrums (Or maybe Beats Antique, however we did just see them), Dada Life..then there’s a horrible us out here…The Weeknd vs. Gotyke vs. Nero..honestly I think it’ll have to be The Weeknd but we’ll see..definitely some Justice and Calvin Harris next (Leaning towards Calvin Harris, been looking forward to seeing him), Modeselektor or Avicii next and then and close the night out with some Dre and Snoop Dog..would love to see Florence and the Machine but may be too romantic for me..but you never know if love may strike at Coachella!

Gotye vs. Notorious B.I.G. – Somebody That I Used To Know Vs Dead Wrong (Scott Melker Popped and Screwed Remix)

Calvin Harris – Feel So Close (Special Features Remix)

Paradise Circus (Zeds Dead Remix)

The Weeknd – High For This

M83 – Midnight City (Eric Prydz Private Remix)

Afrojack Feat Shermanology – Can’t Stop Me Now

David Guetta – Titanium (Alesso Remix)

Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso ft. Ryan Tedder – Calling (Lose My Mind)

Justice – On’n’on

Hump Day Ho-Down (Collin’s Mixtape + White Pants Dancing Treats)

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

White pants + dancing=WhitePantsDancing. A phenomenon that generally takes place when one is alone in front of a mirror wearing white pants while listening to timeless classics such as Tarzan Boy by Baltimora. I’ve taken it upon myself to share this phenomenon with the masses by telling everyone that it works with any genre of music as long as you have the pants and a strong desire to pelvic thrust. I also feel that it shouldn’t be kept behind closed doors as before. The public dance floor is ready for this unique and powerful form of grooving. To get the ball rolling on said movement, I plan on petitioning for local venues/clubs to support WhitePantsDancing by installing mirrors so everyone can admire their white pants while dancing in unison. The final goal would be to bring everyone together in pelvic thrusting harmony with the white pants symbolizing the universal color of unity. How can this be better than no pants dancing you say? Well my friends, traditionally white pants dancing is performed without a shirt. That fact makes WhitePantsDancing the polar opposite of no pants dancing. This would therefore break the monotony and over saturation of no pants dancing by providing a viable alternative for those that have more confidence in showing off their upper extremities. Lets not forget that it’s also a viable alternative for those that don’t wear underwear. Although if you don’t wear underwear with the white pants, it might not make a huge difference, but that’s simply beside the point. I’ve always prided myself in catching on to awesome dance movements before they explode (i.e. High BPM Goth Dancing) and I feel I’ve stricken gold yet again. You dig?

Now that I got that off my chest, I’d like to present my Spring Mixtape. I know what you’re thinking, “Everyone’s a DJ these days and everyone has a Mixtape so who gives a chit.” Well I put this together with white pants dancing as the primary focal point. So that’s what makes it unique. That said, anyone who wants to hate shouldn’t listen. It includes some sexy tunes I’ve posted as well as taste of what you can expect from my upcoming set. So without further ado…put on your white pants…take off your shirt…find a mirror….hit play….and DANCE. Oh and I did record it live of course so if you hear a mistake simply act like it never happened. It would also be appreciated if everyone would do me a solid by sharing this mixtape with whomever you feel might enjoy it.
